Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an old healing practice of traditional Chinese medicine dating back over 4,000 years. It still remains effective today as a way to strengthen the body rather than merely treating symptoms. It is primarily used to relieve pain as well as treat other conditions. More than 3 million Americans and 200,000 children in the U.S. have had acupuncture to help relieve a symptom or condition. Because of its low side effects, it has been the treatment of choice for many doctors across the country. It is even more popular in other countries.

Diversified Technique

Diversified Technique

The goal of the Diversified Technique is to reduce nerve interference. There are no special or unique procedures needed. Patients are assessed using these various mechanisms: history and basic examination (orthopedic and neurologic), palpation, x-ray, leg checks and reflex procedures as well as others.

The procedure involves analyzing the full spine and extremities. The majority of adjustments used in Diversified are manual adjustments, HVLA (high velocity, low amplitude), or long lever manipulations aimed at cavitating the joint and creating an audible release. This sound is known by patients as the “popping” or “cracking” sound associated with adjustments. Some chiropractors utilize specialized equipment such as drop tables or pelvic blocks.

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical Stimulation

Electric muscle stimulation is one of the chiropractic care services provided at Ahead of the Curve Chiropractic. This method of treatment provides numerous benefits and can be particularly helpful when recovering from an injury. The treatment modality works by having a machine deliver a safe, low-level electrical current via nodes attached to the affected area. Placement, level of charge, and depth of the nodes will all depend on the area of the body being treated and our chiropractor: Dr. Hines, will create a personalized treatment regimen for you and your specific needs.

Prevents Muscle Atrophy

Athletes and individuals with conditions such as multiple sclerosis want to avoid losing as much muscle as possible. Electric muscle stimulation can slow down the atrophy by stimulating the muscles and forcing them to contract. These forced contractions keep the muscles active, even when the patient can not contract them on their own. This treatment is often used on injured athletes as it allows them to recover without losing any of the muscle mass they gained before the injury.

Recover Faster

Electrical muscle stimulation also promotes blood flow to an injured area. This will make the healing process faster and the contractions will keep the surrounding muscles strong. Once the patient is ready to resume their normal activities, most report that they were able to make an easy transition back into their activities. Athletes greatly enjoy this aspect of the treatment as a prolonged period of downtime typically leads to lower performance in their sport and in the gym. But, electrical muscle stimulation allows them to return to their original strength at a much faster rate.

Another factor in the quick recoveries promoted by electrical muscle stimulation is that it can be used post-workout to alleviate muscle swelling. This will leave your muscles feeling energized and avoid the soreness that usually comes after a workout.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is an intervention administered to various patients to alleviate pain or restrictive tissue problems. The release treatment usually involves the application of gentle or moderate pressure on the connective tissues and leads to relaxation and eventual elongation of the fascia therein. These restrictions are often caused by traumatic accidents or inflammations of the soft tissue. Some patients get them as an after-effect of surgery. They always result in muscular tension and spasm of sharp pain. They cannot be detected through standard diagnosis tests like the x-ray scan. It is essential for a patient to visit a doctor or physiotherapy expert once they notice restriction of movement in the hip area or shoulder. Painful backs can also be a sign of the restriction and can only be treated through the Myofascial Release procedures.

What to expect during therapy
If you have never undergone a Myofascial Release procedure before, you might wonder what will be done. There is no need to panic any way, since it is a minor therapy intervention meant to alleviate any pain that could be as a result of fascia muscle pain and restriction. Here is what you can expect if you visit a standard therapist for your myofascial pain treatment.

  • The therapist might have to interview you about what you think the cause of the pain could be. They may also palpitate the affected area to identify the particular fascia that needs to be massaged and given due attention during the procedure.
  • A standard treatment should last anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour, but should not last longer than that as that may lead to soreness and fatigue.
  • You may experience considerable relief, but if the case is severe, you may need to go for another session or two in the subsequent days.
  • The treatment does not require the use of any equipment and creams or gels. The therapist will only need their hands to manipulate and apply slight pressure to the trigger points and affected muscles.

Vibration Therapy

Vibration therapy is a newer treatment that uses a non-invasive approach to relieving muscle aches and pains. The treatment doesn’t take long, nor does it cause side effects or pain. At Ahead of the Curve Chiropractic, serving Dallas, TX and the general vicinity, Our Doctors offer non-invasive, non-addictive methods for pain relief, such as vibration therapy.

Defining Vibration Therapy

Dr. Hines uses a localized approach to vibration therapy. This consists of a handheld device placed on an area of your body where you’re experiencing pain. The device sends gentle vibrations into your body, particularly that target your muscles. Generally, Dr. Hines will perform the treatment for about 15 minutes per body part per session. You may need a few sessions before you notice results.

Vibration Therapy Benefits

Our chiropractor uses vibration therapy as a pain management technique. Pain reduction occurs because the vibrations cause the muscles to contract and relax. The vibrations also help with swelling. Additionally, the therapy improves circulation, which helps with the healing process. Vibration therapy also is said to increase muscle mass, which helps with healing as well. This therapy is used on patients who have chronic musculoskeletal pain in certain areas of the body such as the back, neck, arms, and legs.

Vibration traction is a technique beneficial to patients with fibromyalgia, arthritis, sciatica, Parkinson’s, and more. In addition, vibration traction has been recognized by the Clear Scoliosis Institute for its effect on treating scoliosis. The Clear Scoliosis Institute is an organization dedicated to the management of scoliosis.

Vibration therapy is also useful for patients who have the following types of injuries:

  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • General muscle soreness
  • General muscle weakness
  • Overexertion

The Dangers of Vibration Therapy

Most patients experience no adverse effects from vibration therapy. It’s possible for the treatment to cause pain if the vibrations are too intense, but Dr. Hines makes sure to increase the intensity gradually and carefully. We encourage you to voice any concerns if you feel as though the vibrations are too strong.

Sometimes, vibration therapy can cause side effects or a negative reaction in certain patients. For instance, we tend to not perform vibration therapy on patients who are taking a blood thinner or a medication that’s known for having a blood-thinning effect. We also don’t recommend vibration therapy for patients with advanced diabetes or heart disease.

Since little research has been conducted regarding vibration therapy and pregnancy, we don’t perform this procedure on pregnant women. To reduce the occurrence of negative effects, we screen patients thoroughly prior to administering the treatments.

Determining if Vibration Therapy Is Right for You

For some patients, vibration therapy alone is enough. However, Dr. Hines may recommend this treatment along with others to enhance its healing and pain relief effects. Schedule your appointment with Ahead of the Curve Chiropractic, serving the Dallas and Austin, TX areas. Call our chiropractor today at (214) 420-2050 to see if vibration therapy could help with your pain.

X-Rays

X-Rays

One of the most important elements of chiropractic care is diagnostics. Chiropractic radiology is a tool utilized in care as a diagnostic practice to rule out pathology (such as possible tumor or fracture) and/or an additional aid to determine where to adjust the spine. Chiropractors rely on a variety of diagnostic techniques in order to fully understand what is occurring in the patient’s musculoskeletal system, and how a given treatment intervention could bring about positive results in each patient.
